                                  A RESOLUTION

     1  Memorializing the President and the Congress of the United
     2     States to extend benefits to Americans who have or will have
     3     exhausted their current unemployment benefits.

     4     WHEREAS, Economic hardship continues throughout this
     5  Commonwealth due to unemployment of Pennsylvania's workers,
     6  particularly in the steel sector; and
     7     WHEREAS, Congress has the authority to enact legislation to
     8  provide extending benefits to more than 168,000 Pennsylvanians
     9  who have or are expected to exhaust their regular unemployment
    10  compensation benefits and to millions of America's other
    11  unemployed workers; therefore be it
    12     RESOLVED, That, in order to insure the funding of extended
    13  unemployment compensation benefits to millions of America's
    14  unemployed workers, the House of Representatives of the
    15  Commonwealth of Pennsylvania call upon the President and the
    16  Congress to make funds available to help more than 168,000
    17  Pennsylvanians who need extended unemployment compensation
    18  benefits by declaring it "Emergency Legislation"; and be it

     2     RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be transmitted to
     3  the President of the United States, the President pro tempore of
     4  the United States Senate, the Speaker of the United States House
     5  of Representatives and to each member of Congress from
     6  Pennsylvania.
