                                     AN ACT

     1  Amending the act of May 1, 1933 (P.L.216, No.76), entitled "An
     2     act relating to dentistry; defining and providing for the
     3     licensing and registration of dentists and dental hygienists,
     4     and for the revocation and suspension of such licenses and
     5     registrations, subject to appeal, and for their
     6     reinstatement; defining the powers and duties of the State
     7     Dental Council and Examining Board and the Department of
     8     Public Instruction; providing penalties; and repealing
     9     existing laws," further providing for the powers of the State
    10     Board of Dentistry.

    11     The General Assembly of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania
    12  hereby enacts as follows:
    13     Section 1.  Section 3(j) of the act of May 1, 1933 (P.L.216,
    14  No.76), known as The Dental Law, amended December 20, 1985
    15  (P.L.513, No.118), is amended to read:
    16     Section 3.  General Powers of the State Board of Dentistry.--
    17  The State Board of Dentistry (hereinafter called the board)
    18  shall have the following powers and duties:
    19     * * *
    20     (j)  To provide for, regulate, and require biennial renewals
    21  of all persons licensed in accordance with the provisions of
    22  this act; to prescribe the form of [such] all license renewals;

     1  to require, as a condition precedent to [such] every biennial
     2  renewal, the payment of such biennial renewal fee as shall be
     3  fixed by regulation of the board; to require, as a condition
     4  precedent to biennial renewal of a license to practice
     5  dentistry, proof of satisfactory completion of continuing
     6  education requirements imposed by board regulation; to issue
     7  biennial renewals to [such] all eligible persons; and to suspend
     8  or revoke the license of such persons as fail, refuse or neglect
     9  to renew biennially, to prove continuing education or pay such
    10  fee.

    12     Section 2.  The amendment of section 3(j) of the act shall
    13  apply to renewal applications submitted after March 30, 1995.
    14     Section 3.  This act shall take effect in 60 days.
