                                     AN ACT

     1  Providing for the training of agents of humane societies and for
     2     additional duties of the Department of Agriculture.

     3     The General Assembly of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania
     4  hereby enacts as follows:
     5  Section 1.  Short title.
     6     This act shall be known and may be cited as the Humane
     7  Society Agent Law.
     8  Section 2.  Definitions.
     9     The following words and phrases when used in this act shall
    10  have the meanings given to them in this section unless the
    11  context clearly indicates otherwise:
    12     "Agent" or "humane society agent."  Any person appointed or
    13  employed by a humane society to investigate suspected violations
    14  of, and to enforce, the laws of this Commonwealth relating to
    15  the prevention of cruelty to animals.
    16     "Department."  The Department of Agriculture of the

     1  Commonwealth.
     2     "Humane society."  Any society or association for the
     3  prevention of cruelty to animals incorporated under the laws of
     4  this Commonwealth.
     5     "Secretary."  The Secretary of Agriculture of the
     6  Commonwealth.
     7  Section 3.  Training program.
     8     (a)  General rule.--The department shall devise and by rule
     9  promulgate a training program for humane society agents. This
    10  program shall include training in the laws applicable to the
    11  protection of animals, including the use of relevant
    12  Pennsylvania Rules of Criminal Procedure.
    13     (b)  Conduct.--This program shall be conducted at various
    14  sites within this Commonwealth as the department shall
    15  determine.
    16  Section 4.  Effective date.
    17     This act shall take effect in 60 days.
