                               A JOINT RESOLUTION

     1  Proposing an amendment to the Constitution of the Commonwealth
     2     of Pennsylvania, further providing for retirement of
     3     justices, judges and justices of the peace.

     4     The General Assembly of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania
     5  hereby resolves as follows:
     6     Section 1.  The following amendment to the Constitution of
     7  Pennsylvania is proposed in accordance with Article XI:
     8     That section 16(b) of Article V be amended to read:
     9  § 16.  Compensation and retirement of justices, judges and
    10         justices of the peace.

    12     (b)  Justices, judges and justices of the peace shall be
    13  retired [upon attaining] on the last day of the calendar year in
    14  which they attain the age of 70 years. Former and retired
    15  justices, judges and justices of the peace shall receive such
    16  compensation as shall be provided by law. No compensation shall


     1  be paid to any justice, judge or justice of the peace who is
     2  suspended or removed from office under section 18 of this
     3  article or under Article VI.

     5     Section 2.  This proposed amendment shall be submitted by the
     6  Secretary of the Commonwealth to the qualified electors of this
     7  Commonwealth at the general election next held after the
     8  advertising requirements of section 1 of Article XI of the
     9  Constitution of Pennsylvania have been satisfied.
