        ADOPTED, APRIL 3, 1991

                                  A RESOLUTION

     1  Memorializing the Governor to proclaim the week of April 7
     2     through 13, 1991, as the "Days of Remembrance of the Victims
     3     of the Holocaust."

     4     WHEREAS, From 1933 to 1945, 6 million Jews were murdered in
     5  the Nazi Holocaust as part of a systematic program of genocide,
     6  and millions of other people perished as victims of Nazism; and
     7     WHEREAS, The people of this Commonwealth should always
     8  remember the atrocities committed by the Nazis so that such
     9  horrors shall never be repeated, and should continually
    10  rededicate themselves to the principle of equal justice for all
    11  people; and

     1     WHEREAS, The people of this Commonwealth should remain
     2  eternally vigilant against all tyranny and should recognize that
     3  bigotry provides a breeding ground for tyranny to flourish; and
     4     WHEREAS, The Pennsylvania Department of Education in November
     5  1990 published "The Holocaust--A Guide for Pennsylvania
     6  Teachers," in cooperation with the Pennsylvania Jewish
     7  Coalition; and
     8     WHEREAS, The Pennsylvania Department of Education distributed
     9  a copy of this guide to every school district in this
    10  Commonwealth; and
    11     WHEREAS, Publications of this type are useful and important
    12  tools to educate our teachers and their students in eliminating
    13  the prejudice and bigotry which leads to discrimination,
    14  persecution and, ultimately, to genocide; and
    15     WHEREAS, April 11, 1991, has been designated internationally
    16  as "Day of Remembrance of Victims of the Nazi Holocaust," known
    17  as Yom Hashoah; and
    18     WHEREAS, It is appropriate for the people of this
    19  Commonwealth to join in the international commemoration;
    20  therefore be it
    21     RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the
    22  Commonwealth of Pennsylvania memorialize Governor Robert P.
    23  Casey to proclaim the week of April 7 through April 13, 1991, as
    24  the "Days of Remembrance of the Victims of the Holocaust," in
    25  memory of the victims of the Holocaust, and in the hope that we
    26  will strive always to overcome prejudice and inhumanity through
    27  education, vigilance and resistance; and be it further
    28     RESOLVED, That the House of Represenatives memorialize the
    29  Governor to support the continued promotion and distribution of
    30  "The Holocaust--A Guide for Pennsylvania Teachers" in schools of
