                                  A RESOLUTION

     1  Designating the week of April 29 through May 4, 1991, as "Reflex
     2     Sympathetic Dystrophy Syndrome Awareness Week" in
     3     Pennsylvania.

     4     WHEREAS, Reflex sympathetic dystrophy syndrome, known as
     5  RSDS, is a disabling disease that causes symptoms such as loss
     6  of mobility of the limbs, softness of the bones, stiffness in
     7  the joints, vasospasms and muscle spasms; and
     8     WHEREAS, RSDS affects individuals of both sexes and all ages;
     9  and
    10     WHEREAS, Individuals afflicted with RSDS suffer excruciating
    11  pain without relief; and
    12     WHEREAS, Research into the causes and effects of RSDS has
    13  only recently begun; and
    14     WHEREAS, Medical researchers face a difficult challenge in
    15  attempting to identify the origin of RSDS; and
    16     WHEREAS, Education of the victims of RSDS and the public

     1  about the disease is difficult because of the limited amount of
     2  knowledge about the disease and the lack of consensus in the
     3  medical profession regarding the proper interpretation of the
     4  knowledge; and
     5     WHEREAS, The RSDS Association was incorporated on May 18,
     6  1984, to support research of the disease and to aid families of
     7  persons suffering from the disease; and
     8     WHEREAS, A week should be designated to recognize the victims
     9  of RSDS and to increase the awareness and concern of the people
    10  of the United States regarding the research into the causes,
    11  cures, prevention and clinical treatment of the devastating
    12  disease; therefore be it
    13     RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives designate the
    14  week of April 29 through May 4, 1991, as "Reflex Sympathetic
    15  Dystrophy Syndrome Awareness Week" in Pennsylvania.
