AN ACT
1 Making an appropriation to the Trustees of Jefferson Medical
2 College and Hospital of Philadelphia for a comprehensive
3 program relating to Tay-Sachs disease.
4 The General Assembly of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania
5 hereby enacts as follows:
6 Section 1. The sum of $58,000 is hereby appropriated to the
7 Trustees of Jefferson Medical College and Hospital,
8 Philadelphia, for the fiscal year July 1, 1991, to June 30,
9 1992, for a comprehensive program relating to persons with Tay-
10 Sachs disease.
11 Section 2. Payment to Jefferson Medical College and Hospital
12 on account of the appropriation relating to Tay-Sachs disease as
13 provided for in section 1 shall be made by the Secretary of
14 Health in equal quarterly payments and shall be conditioned upon
15 a program which shall include the detection of Tay-Sachs disease
16 in the community, counseling of individuals and families,
17 education of the public, coordination of research into the
18 treatment for Tay-Sachs disease and the expansion of genetic
1 diagnostic services and treatment of persons with the disease.
2 Section 3. Jefferson Medical College and Hospital shall
3 provide full, complete and accurate information as may be
4 required by the Department of Health or the Majority Chairman or
5 the Minority Chairman of the Appropriations Committee of the
6 Senate or the Majority Chairman or the Minority Chairman of the
7 Appropriations Committee of the House of Representatives.
8 Section 4. This act shall take effect July 1, 1991, or
9 immediately, whichever is later.
