AN ACT 1 Amending Title 23 (Domestic Relations) of the Pennsylvania 2 Consolidated Statutes, providing for the imposition of civil 3 penalties upon defendants found in contempt; and providing 4 for the use of these penalties. 5 The General Assembly of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania 6 hereby enacts as follows: 7 Section 1. Section 6114 of Title 23 of the Pennsylvania 8 Consolidated Statutes is amended by adding a subsection to read: 9 § 6114. Contempt for violation of order or agreement. 10 * * * 11 (c) Civil penalty.--In addition to the penalties provided 12 for in this section, a defendant found in indirect criminal 13 contempt for violation of a protection order issued under this 14 chapter, or a court-approved consent agreement, shall be subject
1 to a civil penalty payable to the Commonwealth in the amount of 2 $50 for the first finding of contempt, which penalty shall be 3 increased to $100 for the second finding of contempt and $200 4 for the third or any subsequent finding of contempt. These 5 penalties shall be deposited by the State Treasurer in a 6 separate account, which is hereby established, with the 7 expectation that the General Assembly may from time to time 8 appropriate funds from this account for the provision of civil 9 legal representation and legal advocacy for victims who seek 10 relief under this chapter. 11 Section 2.
