                                     AN ACT

     1  Amending the act of June 24, 1931 (P.L.1206, No.331), entitled
     2     "An act concerning townships of the first class; amending,
     3     revising, consolidating, and changing the law relating
     4     thereto," increasing the compensation of auditors.

     5     The General Assembly of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania
     6  hereby enacts as follows:
     7     Section 1.  Section 1001 of the act of June 24, 1931
     8  (P.L.1206, No.331), known as The First Class Township Code,
     9  reenacted and amended May 27, 1949 (P.L.1955, No.569) and
    10  amended July 31, 1968 (P.L.917, No.276), is amended to read:
    11     Section 1001.  Meetings; General Duties; Compensation.--The
    12  auditors of townships shall meet annually, on the day following
    13  the day which is fixed by this act for the organization of the
    14  township commissioners, and shall audit, settle, and adjust the
    15  accounts of the township commissioners, township treasurer, tax
    16  collector, secretary, and other officers and persons receiving
    17  and disbursing or authorizing the disbursement of the moneys of
    18  the township during the preceding fiscal year. The auditors


     1  shall make an audit of the dockets, transcripts, and other
     2  official records of the offices of the justice of the peace of
     3  the township to determine the amounts of fines and costs paid or
     4  due to the township. All justices of the peace shall open and
     5  make available to the auditors their dockets, transcripts,
     6  records, and all other official books or papers for the purpose
     7  of the audit: Provided, That in any case where a justice of the
     8  peace charges a fine contrary to ordinances, or to any act which
     9  makes such fine payable to the township, the said auditors have
    10  the power to surcharge such justices of the peace in any amount
    11  or amounts undercharged as set forth in said ordinances or act.
    12  Two auditors shall constitute a quorum. Each auditor shall
    13  receive [twenty dollars ($20)] fifty-four dollars ($54) per diem
    14  for each day necessarily employed in the duties of his office,
    15  to be paid out of funds of the township. A day shall consist of
    16  not less than five hours in the aggregate. In completing their
    17  audit, the auditors shall not be employed more than the
    18  following number of days: In townships having a population of
    19  less than three thousand, twenty days; in townships having a
    20  population of three thousand and more but less than ten
    21  thousand, thirty days; and in townships having a population of
    22  ten thousand and more, forty days.
    23     Section 2.  This act shall take effect immediately.
