AN ACT
1 Providing for loan forgiveness to encourage geography
2 instruction in elementary schools.
3 The General Assembly of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania
4 hereby enacts as follows:
5 Section 1. Loan forgiveness.
6 The Commonwealth shall pay up to 25% of any school loan for
7 each year that a qualified teacher spends teaching geography, or
8 courses that have utilized and incorporated geography as a
9 subject matter in an elementary school. This payment shall be
10 made both to a student who elects to study geography and/or
11 geography instruction while in undergraduate school and to a
12 teacher who returns to college for courses in geography and/or
13 geography instruction.
14 Section 2. Regulation.
15 The Department of Education shall promulgate regulations to
16 carry out this act, including what courses of instruction are
17 eligible for the loan forgiveness provisions.
1 Section 3. Effective date.
2 This act shall take effect immediately.
