AN ACT 1 Amending the act of March 4, 1970 (P.L.128, No.49), entitled "An 2 act granting to the Governor of the Commonwealth the sole 3 authority for regulating the display of the flag of the 4 United States from any public ground or building and from any 5 ground or building of certain other institutions," providing <-- 6 for the display of the official POW/MIA Flag on certain 7 bridges. FURTHER PROVIDING FOR DISPLAY OF THE OFFICIAL <-- 8 POW/MIA FLAG. 9 The General Assembly of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania 10 hereby enacts as follows: 11 Section 1. Section 1 1(C) of the act of March 4, 1970 <-- 12 (P.L.128, No.49), entitled "An act granting to the Governor of 13 the Commonwealth the sole authority for regulating the display 14 of the flag of the United States from any public ground or 15 building and from any ground or building of certain other 16 institutions," ADDED DECEMBER 18, 1987 (P.L.417, NO.87), is <-- 17 amended AND THE SECTION IS AMENDED by adding a subsection to <-- 18 read: 19 Section 1. * * * 20 (C) IN ADDITION TO ANY OTHER POWERS OR DUTIES IMPOSED BY <--
1 THIS SECTION, THE GOVERNOR SHALL REQUIRE THE DEPARTMENT OF 2 GENERAL SERVICES TO DISPLAY CONTINUOUSLY FROM A FLAG POLE IN 3 "SOLDIERS' GROVE," AS DEFINED IN THE ACT OF OCTOBER 30, 1987 4 (P.L.375, NO.75), ENTITLED "AN ACT PROVIDING FOR THE DESIGNATION 5 OF CERTAIN TREES AND LAND ON THE GROUNDS OF THE STATE CAPITOL IN 6 HARRISBURG AS 'SOLDIERS' GROVE' IN HONOR OF WAR VETERANS; 7 IMPOSING DUTIES UPON THE DEPARTMENT OF GENERAL SERVICES; AND 8 MAKING AN APPROPRIATION," AND FROM THE FLAG POLES OF ALL PUBLIC 9 BUILDINGS OF THE COMMONWEALTH, ALL BOARDS, COMMISSIONS OR 10 AUTHORITIES OF THE COMMONWEALTH AND FROM THE FLAG POLES OF ANY 11 PUBLIC GROUND OR BUILDING OF A POLITICAL SUBDIVISION OR SCHOOL 12 DISTRICT OF THE COMMONWEALTH, THE OFFICIAL POW/MIA FLAG UNTIL 13 ALL POW'S AND MIA'S RETURN OR ARE ACCOUNTED FOR. 14 (d) In addition to any other powers and duties imposed by 15 this section the Governor shall require the Department of 16 General Services to furnish official POW/MIA flags for entrances 17 to State-owned bridges which have been named in honor of war 18 veterans, which flags shall be installed and continuously 19 displayed by the Department of Transportation until all POW's 20 and MIA's return or are accounted for. 21 Section 2.
