A RESOLUTION
1 Directing the Education Committee to investigate any incidents
2 relating to racial relations occurring on the campuses of the
3 Commonwealth's colleges and universities.
4 WHEREAS, The news media has reported several incidents on the
5 campuses of the Commonwealth's colleges and universities that
6 are indicative of possible or potential racial relations
7 problems on those campuses; and
8 WHEREAS, This Commonwealth is committed to protecting the
9 rights of all of its citizens to be free from discrimination on
10 the basis of race, religion, sex or national origin; therefore
11 be it
12 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives direct the
13 Education Committee to investigate any alleged or reported
14 incidents relating to racial relations occurring on the campuses
15 of the Commonwealth's colleges and universities; and be it
16 further
17 RESOLVED, That the committee may hold hearings, take
1 testimony and make its investigations at such places as it deems
2 necessary in this Commonwealth. Each member of the committee
3 shall have power to administer oaths and affirmations to
4 witnesses appearing before the committee; and be it further
5 RESOLVED, That the committee make a report of its findings
6 and recommendations to the House of Representatives as soon as
7 possible.
