                                     AN ACT

     1  Amending Title 42 (Judiciary and Judicial Procedure) of the
     2     Pennsylvania Consolidated Statutes, providing for
     3     confidential communications to psychiatrists.

     4     The General Assembly of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania
     5  hereby enacts as follows:
     6     Section 1.  Section 5944 of Title 42 of the Pennsylvania
     7  Consolidated Statutes is amended to read:
     8  § 5944.  Confidential communications to psychiatrists or
     9             licensed psychologists.
    10     No psychiatrist or person who has been licensed under the act
    11  of March 23, 1972 (P.L.136, No.52), to practice psychology shall
    12  be, without the written consent of his client, examined in any
    13  civil or criminal matter as to any information acquired in the
    14  course of his professional services in behalf of such client.
    15  The confidential relations and communications between a
    16  psychologist or psychiatrist and his client shall be on the same
    17  basis as those provided or prescribed by law between an attorney
    18  and client.

     1     Section 2.  This act shall take effect immediately.
