                                     AN ACT

     1  Amending Title 75 (Vehicles) of the Pennsylvania Consolidated
     2     Statutes, providing for the installation of alcohol safety
     3     interlock systems.

     4     The General Assembly of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania
     5  hereby enacts as follows:
     6     Section 1.  Section 3731 of Title 75 of the Pennsylvania
     7  Consolidated Statutes is amended by adding a subsection to read:
     8  § 3731.  Driving under influence of alcohol or controlled
     9             substance.

    11     (i)  Order for installation of alcohol safety interlock
    12  system.--In addition to the sentences set forth in subsection
    13  (e)(1), the sentencing court may order the installation of an
    14  alcohol safety interlock system on any automobile registered in
    15  that person's name or in the name of a member of the person's
    16  immediate family. The order shall specify the length of time
    17  during which the system must remain installed. An alcohol safety

     1  interlock system is a device which tests reaction time,
     2  coordination or blood alcohol level and prevents the ignition or
     3  normal operation of the vehicle if the test is failed.
     4     Section 2.  This act shall take effect in 60 days.
