                                     AN ACT

     1  Providing for the examination of patients and inmates of State
     2     mental institutions and State and county correctional
     3     facilities for acquired immune deficiency syndrome (AIDS).

     4     The General Assembly of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania
     5  hereby enacts as follows:
     6  Section 1.  Required testing.
     7     All patients and inmates of State mental institutions and
     8  State and county prisons, jails, detention facilities and other
     9  correctional facilities shall be tested for the presence of HIV
    10  infection in relation to acquired immune deficiency syndrome
    11  (AIDS) upon admission and each six months thereafter. Patients
    12  and inmates testing positive shall be segregated from the
    13  uninfected institution or facility population, and their
    14  identity shall be made known to all appropriate employees,
    15  including those who will have direct physical contact with the
    16  affected patients and inmates.
    17  Section 2.  Testing of current patients and inmates.


     1     All persons who are patients or inmates as described in
     2  section 1 on the effective date of this act shall be tested
     3  within 60 days of the effective date hereof, and each six months
     4  thereafter.
     5  Section 3.  Effective date.
     6     This act shall take effect immediately.
