                                     AN ACT

     1  Amending the act of March 10, 1949 (P.L.30, No.14), entitled "An
     2     act relating to the public school system, including certain
     3     provisions applicable as well to private and parochial
     4     schools; amending, revising, consolidating and changing the
     5     laws relating thereto," further providing for the definition
     6     of "exceptional children."

     7     The General Assembly of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania
     8  hereby enacts as follows:
     9     Section 1.  Section 1371(1) of the act of March 10, 1949
    10  (P.L.30, No.14), known as the Public School Code of 1949,
    11  amended January 14, 1970 (1969 P.L.468, No.192), is amended to
    12  read:
    13     Section 1371.  Definition of Exceptional Children; Reports;
    14  Examination.--(1)  The term "exceptional children" shall mean
    15  children of school age who deviate from the average in physical,
    16  mental, emotional or social characteristics to such an extent
    17  that they require special educational facilities or services.
    18  The term "exceptional children" shall include all children of
    19  school age with pervasive developmental disorders, such as


     1  autism or autistic-like behavior, and shall [include] also
     2  include children with learning disabilities and all children in
     3  detention homes.

     5     Section 2.  This act shall take effect in 60 days.
