                                     AN ACT

     1  Making an appropriation to the Department of Environmental
     2     Resources for allocation to the Bureau of Topographic and
     3     Geologic Survey to conduct coal-related research.

     4     The General Assembly of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania
     5  hereby enacts as follows:
     6     Section 1.  The sum of $1,000,000, or as much thereof as may
     7  be necessary, is hereby appropriated to the Department of
     8  Environmental Resources for the fiscal year July 1, 1989, to
     9  June 30, 1990, for allocation to the Bureau of Topographic and
    10  Geologic Survey to purchase and operate data processing
    11  equipment and appropriate geologic software and graphic devices
    12  to generate derivative maps and analyze Pennsylvania coals and
    13  other mineral-related data, and to acquire facilities and
    14  equipment to conduct laboratory research to characterize the
    15  geochemical nature of Pennsylvania coals. The Bureau of
    16  Topographic and Geologic Survey shall cooperate with the

     1  Pennsylvania Mining and Mineral Resources Research Institute to
     2  the maximum extent possible in the purchase and use of
     3  facilities and equipment for the conduct of State coal-related
     4  research and analyses in order to avoid the duplication of
     5  effort and expense.
     6     Section 2.  This act shall take effect July 1, 1989, or
     7  immediately, whichever is later.
