                                     AN ACT

     1  Amending Title 75 (Vehicles) of the Pennsylvania Consolidated
     2     Statutes, further providing for when lighted head lamps are
     3     required.

     4     The General Assembly of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania
     5  hereby enacts as follows:
     6     Section 1.  Section 4302 of Title 75 of the Pennsylvania
     7  Consolidated Statutes is amended to read:
     8  § 4302.  [Period] Periods for requiring lighted lamps.
     9     [Every vehicle upon a highway at any time between sunset and
    10  sunrise and at any other time when, due to insufficient light or
    11  unfavorable atmospheric conditions, persons and vehicles on the
    12  highway are not clearly discernible from a distance of 1000 feet
    13  ahead shall display lighted head and other lamps and
    14  illuminating devices as required under this chapter for
    15  different classes of vehicles, subject to exceptions with
    16  respect to parked vehicles. Stop lights, turn signals and other
    17  signaling devices shall be lighted as prescribed in this title.]
    18     (a)  General rule.--The operator of a vehicle upon a highway

     1  shall display the lighted head lamps and other lamps and
     2  illuminating devices required under this chapter for different
     3  classes of vehicles, subject to exceptions with respect to
     4  parked vehicles, at the following times:
     5         (1)  Between sunset and sunrise.
     6         (2)  Any time when, due to insufficient light or
     7     unfavorable atmospheric conditions, persons and vehicles on
     8     the highway are not clearly discernible from a distance of
     9     1,000 feet ahead.
    10         (3)  Any time when, due to rain, snow, sleet, hail, fog,
    11     smoke, smog or any other similar condition, the visibility of
    12     the vehicle to others is impaired.
    13     (b)  Signal lights.--Stop lights, turn signals and other
    14  signaling devices shall be lighted as prescribed in this title.
    15     Section 2.  This act shall take effect in 60 days.
