                                     AN ACT

     1  Amending the act of May 29, 1956 (1955 P.L.1840, No.610),
     2     entitled, as amended, "An act defining and providing for the
     3     licensing of water well drillers; prevention of pollution of
     4     underground waters; conferring powers and imposing duties on
     5     the Bureau of Topographic and Geologic Survey and prescribing
     6     penalties and fees," requiring the filling or sealing of
     7     abandoned wells.

     8     The General Assembly of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania
     9  hereby enacts as follows:
    10     Section 1.  Section 5 of the act of May 29, 1956 (1955
    11  P.L.1840, No.610), known as the Water Well Drillers License Act,
    12  is amended to read:
    13     Section 5.  The department [may] shall require the well
    14  owner, including owners of privately owned wells, to seal
    15  effectively or fill any abandoned well on his property in
    16  accordance with the rules and regulations of the department.
    17     Section 2.  This act shall take effect immediately.
