HOUSE RESOLUTION

        REFERRED TO COMMITTEE ON RULES, JUNE 28, 1988

                            A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION

     1  Expressing the intent of the General Assembly to correct certain
     2     deficiencies in the use of certain identification for the
     3     purchase of alcoholic beverages.

     4     WHEREAS, Section 495 of the act of April 12, 1951 (P.L.90,
     5  No.21), known as the Liquor Code, provides for the use of
     6  certain drivers' licenses or other appropriate identification
     7  cards issued by the Department of Transportation as acceptable
     8  means of identification; and
     9     WHEREAS, The limitations in section 495 have placed a heavy
    10  burden on nonresidents of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania to
    11  the detriment of the tourism industry; and
    12     WHEREAS, Recent developments throughout the United States
    13  provide that most people possess some form of photo-
    14  identification which would satisfy the concerns of our laws;
    15  therefore be it
    16     RESOLVED (the Senate concurring), That the General Assembly
    17  of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania express its intent to pass,
    18  as soon as possible, remedial legislation to correct the

     1  problems arising from the rigid identification requirements of
     2  the Liquor Code.
