A RESOLUTION 1 Requesting the Soviet Union to grant David Gusak and Clara 2 Dudnik permission to emigrate to the United States of 3 America. 4 WHEREAS, David Gusak and Clara Dudnik, both 73 years of age, 5 separated from family members and suffering life-threatening 6 illnesses, have, in December 1984, December 1986 and December 7 1987, applied for and have been refused visas permitting 8 emigration to the United States of America to join family 9 members; and 10 WHEREAS, David Gusak and Clara Dudnik, rather than seeking 11 adverse publicity for their plight, choose to work through the 12 appropriate governmental processes and procedures in full accord 13 with the laws and regulations of the Soviet Union; and 14 WHEREAS, On the basis of these purely humanitarian grounds, 15 the Soviet Union, as a signatory to the Helsinki Accords and 16 other international covenants dealing with the emigration of 17 peoples across international borders, should grant the necessary 18 visas to permit the emigration of David Gusak and Clara Dudnik
1 to the United States of America; therefore be it 2 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 3 Commonwealth of Pennsylvania respectfully request that Soviet 4 Chairman Mikhail Gorbachev examine the plight of David Gusak and 5 Clara Dudnik and take whatever steps are necessary to secure 6 visas permitting emigration to the United States of America; and 7 be it further 8 RESOLVED, That a copy of this resolution be sent to Soviet 9 Chairman Mikhail Gorbachev in care of the Embassy of the Union 10 of Soviet Socialist Republics in Washington, D.C.
