A RESOLUTION
1 Extending congratulations to Sunbury Local 306 of the
2 International Ladies' Garment Workers' Union on the occasion
3 of its 50th anniversary.
4 WHEREAS, June 22, 1987, is the 50th anniversary of Sunbury
5 Local 306 of the International Ladies' Garment Workers' Union;
6 and
7 WHEREAS, Chartered by the International Ladies' Garment
8 Workers' Union General Executive Board on June 22, 1937, Local
9 306 charted a course not to remake the world in which they lived
10 and worked; but just to make things a little better than what
11 they had been; and
12 WHEREAS, Organized by 14 men and women in the Sunbury area--
13 Stella Aumiller, Dorothy McCarthy Berry, Charles Burgess, Maxine
14 Hummel Embly, Luther Fredericks, Margaret Hendricks, Boyd
15 Hetrick, Elmer Howell, Jenny Mayer, Lottie Renninger, Jennie
16 Ruhl, Elsie Smith, Ardella Stohler and Orlean Walshaw--it fought
17 for a little protection in the work place, a little security for
18 their jobs, and, when lucky, perhaps a little increase in their
1 weekly pay; and
2 WHEREAS, Now 50 years hence, the charter members who first
3 gave birth to this local union have passed on both an
4 inheritance and a responsibility to all members who follow that
5 the spirit and ideal which weaved the fabric of their union as a
6 democratic organization of working people never be compromised
7 or lost; therefore be it
8 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the
9 Commonwealth of Pennsylvania extend its heartiest
10 congratulations to Sunbury Local 306 of the International
11 Ladies' Garment Workers' Union on the occasion of its 50th
12 anniversary, and recognize Local 306 for its dedication to the
13 cause of improving the lives of its members and all
14 Pennsylvanians; and be it further
15 RESOLVED, That a copy of this resolution be transmitted to
16 Sunbury Local 306 of the International Ladies' Garment Workers'
17 Union, 415 East Sunbury Street, Shamokin, Pennsylvania.
