HOUSE RESOLUTION

No. 118 Session of 1987

                                  A RESOLUTION

     1  Paying a special tribute to James Dunlap, who lost his life on
     2     the USS Stark.

     3     WHEREAS, Thirty-seven American sailors lost their lives on
     4  the night of May 17, 1987, when an Iraqi fighter plane fired
     5  missles into the hull of the missle frigate, USS Stark; and
     6     WHEREAS, One of the Americans who paid the supreme sacrifice
     7  was James Dunlap, son of Mr. and Mrs. Charles Dunlap of Osceola
     8  Mills, Clearfield County; and
     9     WHEREAS, James Dunlap enlisted in the United States Navy
    10  during his senior year at Philipsburg-Osceola High School and
    11  advanced rapidly to the rank of Electronics Technician Third
    12  Class; and
    13     WHEREAS, The untimely death of this 20-year-old sailor and 36
    14  of his shipmates serves as a grim reminder that the brave men
    15  and worthy patriots whose lives were snuffed out in one brief
    16  moment of combat represent the noblest of American heroes; and
    17     WHEREAS, The grief of James Dunlap's father, mother and two


     1  brothers and two sisters is shared by all Pennsylvanians;
     2  therefore be it
     3     RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives hereby pays a
     4  special tribute to James Dunlap and offers its sincere
     5  condolences to his family; and be it further
     6     RESOLVED, That a copy of this resolution be presented to his
     7  parents.
