HOUSE RESOLUTION

        INTRODUCED BY DALEY, KASUNIC, HALUSKA, FEE, COLAFELLA, DAWIDA,
           WASS, ANGSTADT, LESCOVITZ, DeLUCA, TIGUE, JAROLIN, TRELLO,
           VEON, PERZEL, CIVERA, DISTLER, LEVDANSKY, PISTELLA, BUNT,
           HERMAN, D. W. SNYDER, LLOYD AND JOHNSON, MARCH 16, 1987

        REFERRED TO COMMITTEE ON RULES, MARCH 17, 1987

                                  A RESOLUTION

     1  Establishing a select committee to determine the possibility of
     2     developing new products, processes and technologies relating
     3     to Pennsylvania coal and to study the marketing and promotion
     4     of coal and its byproducts.

     5     WHEREAS, The coal industry in this Commonwealth always played
     6  an important role in the economy of this Commonwealth; and
     7     WHEREAS, The coal industry in this Commonwealth has continued
     8  to decline in recent years, and this has adversely affected
     9  employment in this Commonwealth; and
    10     WHEREAS, Coal, both anthracite and bituminous, is an
    11  important source of energy for this Commonwealth and for the
    12  nation; and
    13     WHEREAS, The economy of this Commonwealth would be
    14  substantially benefited by a resurgence in our coal industry
    15  with increased production and employment; therefore be it
    16     RESOLVED, That the Select Committee on the Coal Industry be
    17  established to determine the possibility of developing new
    18  products, processes and technologies relating to Pennsylvania

     1  coal and to study the marketing and promotion of coal and its
     2  byproducts; and be it further
     3     RESOLVED, That the committee be appointed by the Speaker of
     4  the House of Representatives and be composed of five members of
     5  the majority party and four members of the minority party; and
     6  be it further
     7     RESOLVED, That the committee have the power to call witnesses
     8  and to require the production of documents; and be it further
     9     RESOLVED, That the committee have the power to hire staff and
    10  reimburse the staff from the budget of the Chief Clerk of the
    11  House of Representatives in an amount not to exceed $50,000; and
    12  be it further
    13     RESOLVED, That all expenditures from the $50,000 be
    14  authorized by a majority vote of the committee and that the
    15  chairperson of the committee make a monthly report of all
    16  expenditures to the members of the committee; and be it further
    17     RESOLVED, That the committee report its findings and submit
    18  all expenses to the House of Representatives no later than
    19  September 1, 1988.
