                                     AN ACT

     1  Amending the act of July 28, 1953 (P.L.723, No.230), entitled,
     2     as amended, "An act relating to counties of the second class
     3     and second class A; amending, revising, consolidating and
     4     changing the laws relating thereto," increasing the maximum
     5     amount of fines and penalties for violations of ordinances.

     6     The General Assembly of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania
     7  hereby enacts as follows:
     8     Section 1.  Section 508(d) of the act of July 28, 1953
     9  (P.L.723, No.230), known as the Second Class County Code,
    10  amended December 1, 1977 (P.L.234, No.74), is amended to read:
    11     Section 508.  Ordinances and Resolutions.--* * *
    12     (d)  (1)  Any person violating any of the ordinances,
    13  resolutions, rules and regulations, formulated and adopted by
    14  the board of county commissioners pursuant to this section,
    15  shall, upon conviction thereof at a summary proceeding, be
    16  sentenced to pay such fine as may be prescribed in such
    17  ordinances, resolutions, rules and regulations by the county
    18  commissioners but not in excess of [one hundred dollars ($100)]
    19  one thousand dollars ($1,000), to be paid to the use of the

     1  county, with costs of prosecution, or to be imprisoned in the
     2  county jail for not more than thirty (30) days, or both.
     3     (2)  The board of county commissioners may also prescribe
     4  fines and penalties, not exceeding [five hundred dollars ($500)]
     5  one thousand dollars ($1,000), for the violation of county
     6  ordinances, which fines and penalties may be collected by suit
     7  brought in the name of the county in like manner as debts of
     8  like amount may be sued for.
     9     Section 2.  This act shall take effect in 60 days.
