                                     AN ACT

     1  Amending Title 75 (Vehicles) of the Pennsylvania Consolidated
     2     Statutes, imposing a duty upon parents of children under 12
     3     years of age; and prescribing a penalty.

     4     The General Assembly of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania
     5  hereby enacts as follows:
     6     Section 1.  Title 75 of the Pennsylvania Consolidated
     7  Statutes is amended by adding a section to read:
     8  § 4586.  Leaving unattended child in vehicle.
     9     (a)  General rule.--A parent or legal guardian of a child
    10  under 12 years of age, when operating a passenger car, Class I
    11  truck, Class II truck, classic motor vehicle or antique motor
    12  vehicle, shall insure that the child is not left alone in the
    13  vehicle unless he is attended to by a person 18 years of age or
    14  older.
    15     (b)  Penalty.--A person who fails to comply with subsection
    16  (a) commits a summary offense and shall, upon conviction, be
    17  sentenced to pay a fine of $200.
    18     Section 2.  This act shall take effect in 60 days.
