A RESOLUTION 1 Designating the week of June 15 through June 21, 1986, as 2 "Safety in the Workplace Week" in Pennsylvania. 3 WHEREAS, Workplace accidents each year kill about 11,300 4 Americans and injure an additional 1.9 million workers; and 5 WHEREAS, These accidents cost Americans about $33.4 billion 6 annually; and 7 WHEREAS, Employers and employees in the public and private 8 sectors must recognize the need to safeguard the workplace so 9 that we may enjoy a productive and healthy environment; and 10 WHEREAS, The American Society of Safety Engineers, 11 established in 1911, is an organization dedicated to the 12 reduction of workplace accidents and deaths through the training 13 and development of highly skilled professionals in safety and 14 health management; and 15 WHEREAS, The society has nearly 20,000 members in the United 16 States and more than 50 countries, who will be calling attention 17 to the seriousness and magnitude of this problem through
1 appropriate activities; and 2 WHEREAS, This endeavor is worthy of our support and 3 cooperation so that we may reduce the toll of workplace injuries 4 and deaths; therefore be it 5 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 6 Commonwealth of Pennsylvania designate the week of June 15 7 through June 21, 1986, as "Safety in the Workplace Week" in 8 Pennsylvania and urge the citizens of this Commonwealth to join 9 the members of the American Society of Safety Engineers in their 10 attempts to improve our safety and health; and be it further 11 RESOLVED, That a copy of this resolution be transmitted to 12 the American Society of Safety Engineers.
