A RESOLUTION 1 Recognizing May 15, 1986, as Police Officers' Memorial Day and 2 recognizing the week of May 11, 1986, as Police Officers' 3 Memorial Week. 4 WHEREAS, Law enforcement is one of the essential services 5 provided the citizens of our great Nation; and 6 WHEREAS, Professional police officers of America have served 7 the citizens of their community with dedication and integrity; 8 and 9 WHEREAS, In the past decade over 1,200 police officers have 10 been killed in the line of duty and thousands of police officers 11 have been assaulted; and 12 WHEREAS, There has been a shortage of police personnel and 13 this has caused great stress and anxiety, which has resulted in 14 severe health and family relation problems within this group of 15 dedicated public servants; therefore be it 16 RESOLVED, That the week of May 11, 1986, be recognized as 17 Police Officers' Memorial Week and that the day of May 15, 1986, 18 be recognized as Police Officers' Memorial Day to coincide with
1 the resolution signed by the late President John F. Kennedy on 2 October 1, 1962 (Public Law 87-726, 36 U.S.C. § 167) dedicating 3 the above dates to the members of law enforcement who serve 4 their communities, especially those who have been slain in the 5 line of duty; and be it further 6 RESOLVED, That a copy of this resolution be transmitted to 7 Governor Dick Thornburgh.
