A RESOLUTION 1 Proclaiming May 25, 1985, as "National Holstein Day" in the 2 Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. 3 WHEREAS, One hundred years ago, on May 25, 1885, 284 breeders 4 of purebred, registered Holstein dairy cattle formed the 5 Holstein-Friesian Association of America; and 6 WHEREAS, Since that period of time, Holstein breeders have 7 used principles of genetic evaluation and selection to develop 8 the most productive, feed-efficient dairy animal in the world. 9 Not only has the Holstein dairy cow become the most profitable 10 dairy cow in America, but its virtues have been recognized by 11 agricultural leaders in more than 60 countries who have imported 12 genetic material for the advancement of their own industries; 13 and 14 WHEREAS, Pennsylvania currently has over 6,000 members of the 15 State and National Holstein Associations; and 16 WHEREAS, Holsteins are the source of a large proportion of 17 the milk produced and consumed in the Commonwealth of
1 Pennsylvania; and 2 WHEREAS, The milk and dairy products produced in Pennsylvania 3 contribute significantly to the economy and health and well- 4 being of all our citizens; therefore be it 5 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives, representing the 6 citizens of the Great Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, recognize 7 the Centennial Anniversary of the National Holstein Association 8 in 1985; and be it further 9 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 10 Commonwealth of Pennsylvania proclaim May 25, 1985, as "National 11 Holstein Day"; and be it further 12 RESOLVED, That a copy of this resolution be transmitted to 13 William C.
