AN ACT
1 Amending Title 75 (Vehicles) of the Pennsylvania Consolidated
2 Statutes, providing for rear wheel shields on vehicles.
3 The General Assembly of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania
4 hereby enacts as follows:
5 Section 1. Section 4533 of Title 75 of the Pennsylvania
6 Consolidated Statutes is amended to read:
7 § 4533. Rear wheel shields.
8 (a) General rule.--Every [truck, trailer and truck tractor
9 (without a semitrailer)] vehicle driven on a highway shall be so
10 constructed or equipped as to bar water or other road surface
11 substances thrown from the rear wheels of such vehicle or
12 combination at tangents exceeding 22 1/2 degrees, measured from
13 the road surface, from passing in a straight line to the rear of
14 such vehicle or combination.
15 (b) Shields on certain vehicles.--The department shall
16 promulgate regulations for rear wheel shields on high-body
17 pickup trucks, four-wheel drive vehicles and recreational
1 vehicles.
2 (c) Oversized tires.--The department shall promulgate
3 regulations preventing side spray from vehicles with oversized
4 tires.
5 Section 2. (a) The amendment to section 4533(a) shall apply
6 one year from the effective date of this act.
7 (b) The department shall submit proposed rulemaking under
8 section 4533(b) and (c) for publication in the Pennsylvania
9 Bulletin not later than six months from the effective date of
10 this act.
11 Section 3. This act shall take effect immediately.
