                                     AN ACT

     1  Amending the act of July 28, 1953 (P.L.723, No.230), entitled,
     2     as amended, "An act relating to counties of the second class
     3     and second class A; amending, revising, consolidating and
     4     changing the laws relating thereto," providing for an
     5     additional member on the retirement board.

     6     The General Assembly of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania
     7  hereby enacts as follows:
     8     Section 1.  Section 1703 of the act of July 28, 1953
     9  (P.L.723, No.230), known as the Second Class County Code, is
    10  amended to read:
    11     Section 1703.  Retirement Board.--The retirement system shall
    12  be under the sole direction of a board, which shall consist of
    13  the county commissioners, the treasurer, the controller, [and]
    14  two persons elected by ballot from among the members of the
    15  retirement system, one to serve for two years and one for four
    16  years, and one person elected by ballot from among former county
    17  employes currently receiving retirement allowances, to serve for
    18  four years. Following the completion of the initial terms, the
    19  stated terms of such members shall be four years. Ballots shall

     1  be mailed to each member of the retirement system, or to each
     2  former county employe currently receiving a retirement
     3  allowance, respectively, at least twenty (20) days prior to the
     4  date of the election. A vacancy occurring during the term of any
     5  member of the board shall be filled for the unexpired term by
     6  the appointment or election of a successor in the same manner as
     7  his predecessor. A majority of the members of the board shall
     8  constitute a quorum for the transaction of any business.
     9     Section 2.  This act shall take effect in 60 days.
