                                     AN ACT

     1  Amending the act of March 28, 1984 (P.L.150, No.28), entitled
     2     "An act relating to the rights of purchasers of defective new
     3     motor vehicles," providing that purchasers may seek
     4     assistance from the Office of Attorney General when
     5     manufacturers fail to comply with the act.

     6     The General Assembly of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania
     7  hereby enacts as follows:
     8     Section 1.  Section 11 of the act of March 28, 1984 (P.L.150,
     9  No.28), known as the Automobile Lemon Law, is amended to read:
    10  Section 11.  Application of unfair trade act.
    11     A violation of this act shall also be a violation of the act
    12  of December 17, 1968 (P.L.1224, No.387), known as the Unfair
    13  Trade Practices and Consumer Protection Law. Upon the receipt of
    14  a complaint from a purchaser that the manufacturer has failed to
    15  repair or correct a nonconformity which substantially impairs


     1  the use, value or safety of the motor vehicle, after a
     2  reasonable number of attempts, and has failed to comply with the
     3  purchaser's request to either replace the vehicle or refund the
     4  purchase price as provided in section 5, the Bureau of Consumer
     5  Protection of the Office of Attorney General shall, on behalf of
     6  the purchaser, take any action authorized under the Unfair Trade
     7  Practices and Consumer Protection Law, deemed appropriate to
     8  enforce compliance with this act.
     9     Section 2.  This act shall take effect in 60 days.
