                                     AN ACT

     1  Requiring district attorneys to notify the appropriate State
     2     board when a health care professional is convicted of a
     3     felony.

     4     The General Assembly of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania
     5  hereby enacts as follows:
     6  Section 1.  Definitions.
     7     The following words and phrases when used in this act shall
     8  have the meanings given to them in this section unless the
     9  context clearly indicates otherwise:
    10     "Health care professional."  A person licensed, certified or
    11  registered by any of the State boards as defined in this act.
    12     "State board."  Includes the following departmental
    13  administrative boards within the Department of State: the State
    14  Board of Medical Education and Licensure, the State Board of
    15  Osteopathic Medical Examiners, the State Dental Council and
    16  Examining Board, the State Board of Podiatry Examiners, the

     1  State Board of Pharmacy, the State Board of Nurse Examiners, the
     2  State Board of Physical Therapy Examiners, the State Board of
     3  Occupational Therapy Education and Licensure, the State Board of
     4  Optometrical Examiners, the State Board of Examiners of Nursing
     5  Home Administrators, the State Board of Chiropractic Examiners,
     6  the State Board of Psychologist Examiners and the State Board of
     7  Examiners in Speech-Language and Hearing.
     8  Section 2.  Reports by district attorneys of felony convictions
     9                 against health care professionals.
    10     Whenever a health care professional has been found guilty,
    11  has pleaded guilty or has entered a plea of nolo contendere to a
    12  felony in this Commonwealth, the district attorney of the county
    13  in which the case was prosecuted shall notify the appropriate
    14  State board within 30 days of the court's entry of a finding of
    15  guilt, acceptance of a guilty plea or acceptance of a plea of
    16  nolo contendere.
    17  Section 3.  Effective date.
    18     This act shall take effect in 60 days.
