AN ACT
1 Amending the act of June 13, 1967 (P.L.31, No.21), entitled "An
2 act to consolidate, editorially revise, and codify the public
3 welfare laws of the Commonwealth," providing for medical
4 assistance for certain ALS victims.
5 The General Assembly of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania
6 hereby enacts as follows:
7 Section 1. The act of June 13, 1967 (P.L.31, No.21), known
8 as the Public Welfare Code, is amended by adding a section to
9 read:
10 Section 443.7. Medical Assistance Payments for Amyotrophic
11 Lateral Sclerosis Victims.--Payments on behalf of persons who
12 suffer from Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS) shall be made <--
13 for the following services after all public and private
14 insurance benefits have been exhausted:
15 (1) Respirators.
16 (2) Prescription drugs and devices.
17 (3) Skilled or intermediate nursing home care for unlimited
18 periods of time.
1 (4) Home health care. AND WHO ARE DEEMED MEDICALLY NEEDY <--
2 UNDER THIS ACT SHALL BE MADE FOR THE FOLLOWING SERVICES:
3 (1) MEDICAL EQUIPMENT, SUPPLIES, PROSTHESES, ORTHOSES AND
4 APPLIANCES, INCLUDING RESPIRATORS.
5 (2) PRESCRIPTION DRUGS.
6 Section 2. This act shall take effect in 90 days.
