AN ACT
1 Amending Title 71 (State Government) of the Pennsylvania
2 Consolidated Statutes, further defining "correction officer"
3 and making an editorial correction.
4 The General Assembly of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania
5 hereby enacts as follows:
6 Section 1. The definition of "correction officer" in section
7 5102 of Title 71 of the Pennsylvania Consolidated Statutes is
8 amended to read:
9 § 5102. Definitions.
10 The following words and phrases as used in this part, unless
11 a different meaning is plainly required by the context, shall
12 have the following meanings:

14 "Correction officer." Any FULL-TIME employee ASSIGNED TO THE <--
15 DEPARTMENT OF CORRECTIONS OR THE DEPARTMENT OF PUBLIC WELFARE
16 whose principal duty is the care, custody and control or direct
17 THERAPEUTIC treatment of inmates of a penal or correctional <--
1 institution [or], community treatment center, facility for the
2 criminally insane or secure unit of a youth development center
3 operated by the [Bureau of Correction] Department of Correction <--
4 CORRECTIONS or by the Department of Public Welfare. <--

6 SECTION 2. WITHIN 30 DAYS AFTER THE EFFECTIVE DATE OF THIS <--
7 ACT, THE DEPARTMENTS OF CORRECTIONS AND PUBLIC WELFARE SHALL
8 CERTIFY TO THE STATE EMPLOYEES' RETIREMENT BOARD A LIST OF NEW
9 EMPLOYEES QUALIFIED UNDER THIS ACT.
10 Section 2 3. This act shall take effect in 60 days. <--
