                                     AN ACT

     1  Amending the act of November 1, 1971 (P.L.495, No.113), entitled
     2     "An act providing for the compensation of county officers in
     3     counties of the second through eighth classes, for the
     4     disposition of fees, for filing of bonds in certain cases and
     5     for duties of certain officers," increasing the salary of
     6     county officers holding two or more offices.

     7     The General Assembly of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania
     8  hereby enacts as follows:
     9     SECTION 1.  SECTION 2 OF THE ACT OF NOVEMBER 1, 1971           <--
    10  (P.L.495, NO.113), ENTITLED "AN ACT PROVIDING FOR THE
    11  COMPENSATION OF COUNTY OFFICERS IN COUNTIES OF THE SECOND
    12  THROUGH EIGHTH CLASSES, FOR THE DISPOSITION OF FEES, FOR FILING
    13  OF BONDS IN CERTAIN CASES AND FOR DUTIES OF CERTAIN OFFICERS,"
    14  REENACTED AND AMENDED OCTOBER 7, 1976 (P.L.1101, NO.223) AND
    15  AMENDED NOVEMBER 1, 1979 (P.L.246, NO.82), IS AMENDED TO READ:
    16     SECTION 2.  THE ANNUAL SALARIES OF SHERIFFS SHALL BE AS
    17  FOLLOWS:

     6     (4)  COUNTIES OF THE FOURTH
     7          CLASS..................  18,500             21,500
     8     (5)  COUNTIES OF THE FIFTH
     9          CLASS..................  16,000             19,000
    10     (6)  COUNTIES OF THE SIXTH
    11          CLASS..................  14,000             17,000
    12     (7)  COUNTIES OF THE SEVENTH
    13          CLASS..................  12,500             15,500
    14     (8)  COUNTIES OF THE EIGHTH
    15          CLASS..................  11,000             14,000
    16  IN THOSE CLASSES OF COUNTIES IN WHICH THE SHERIFF ALSO ACTS AS A
    17  WARDEN, THE COUNTY COMMISSIONERS MAY, AT THEIR DISCRETION,
    18  COMPENSATE SUCH SHERIFF-WARDEN AN ADDITIONAL TWO THOUSAND
    19  DOLLARS ($2,000) FOR HOLDING SAID DUAL POSITIONS. THE PERIODIC
    20  SALARY INCREASES PROVIDED FOR IN SECTION 10.1 OF THIS ACT SHALL
    21  BE APPLICABLE TO THIS SECTION.
    22     Section 1 2.  Section 11 of the act of November 1, 1971        <--
    23  (P.L.495, No.113), entitled "An act providing for the
    24  compensation of county officers in counties of the second
    25  through eighth classes, for the disposition of fees, for filing
    26  of bonds in certain cases and for duties of certain officers,"
    27  reenacted and amended October 7, 1976 (P.L.1101, No.223), is
    28  amended to read:
    29     Section 11.  Where any of the officers herein mentioned hold
    30  two or more of the offices for which a salary is herein fixed,

     1  he shall receive the highest salary fixed for any one of the
     2  offices which he holds, plus an additional amount of [one
     3  thousand dollars ($1,000)] two thousand dollars ($2,000) per
     4  annum. The periodic salary increases provided for in section
     5  10.1 of this act shall be applicable to this section.
     6     Section 2 3.  This act shall be applicable to any such         <--
     7  officer when permitted by the Constitution of the Commonwealth
     8  of Pennsylvania.
     9     Section 3 4.  This act shall take effect immediately.          <--
