                                     AN ACT

     1  Amending Title 42 (Judiciary and Judicial Procedure) of the
     2     Pennsylvania Consolidated Statutes, further providing for a
     3     sentence of total confinement.

     4     The General Assembly of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania
     5  hereby enacts as follows:
     6     Section 1.  Section 9756 of Title 42 of the Pennsylvania
     7  Consolidated Statutes is amended by adding a subsection to read:
     8  § 9756.  Sentence of total confinement.
     9     * * *
    10     (e)  Parole in cases of life imprisonment.--If the court
    11  imposes a life sentence for murder in the first degree without
    12  conditions for parole, a person who has been sentenced to life
    13  imprisonment for murder in the first degree shall,
    14  notwithstanding any other provision of law, be ineligible for
    15  parole consideration until he has served a minimum of 25 years
    16  of the life sentence. Notwithstanding any other provision of
    17  law, the person may only be paroled after serving a minimum of
    18  25 years with the approval of the Governor.

     1     Section 2.  This act shall take effect in 60 days.
