           OLIVER, DeWEESE AND PRESTON, JULY 21, 1983

        REFERRED TO COMMITTEE ON RULES, JULY 21, 1983

                                  A RESOLUTION

     1  Providing for an investigation of State correctional facilities.

     2     WHEREAS, There have, for a long period of time, been many
     3  complaints from inmates of State correctional facilities
     4  alleging unnecessary use of force and the use of other
     5  techniques to intimidate and to psychologically harass inmates;
     6  therefore be it
     7     RESOLVED, That the House Judiciary Committee investigate the
     8  administration of State correctional facilities; and be it
     9  further
    10     RESOLVED, That the committee may hold hearings, take
    11  testimony, and make its investigation at such places as it deems
    12  necessary within this Commonwealth. Each member of the committee
    13  shall have power to administer oaths and affirmations to
    14  witnesses before the committee; and be it further
    15     RESOLVED, That the committee make a report of its findings to
    16  the House of Representatives as soon as possible.
