        SENATE JUBELIRER, RULES AND EXECUTIVE NOMINATIONS, IN SENATE,
           AS AMENDED, OCTOBER 4, 1983

                            A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION

        Designating the week of the first Sunday in June as Pennsylvania
           Garden Week.

     1     WHEREAS, The gardeners of Pennsylvania produce a multitude of
     2  foods for their people and thereby enabling the Commonwealth and
     3  our Nation to export foods to other countries which are in
     4  desperate need of food; and
     5     WHEREAS, Gardens also yield flowers of great variety and
     6  breathtaking beauty; and
     7     WHEREAS, Gardening is a pleasant and productive full or part-
     8  time activity for a large number of citizens; and
     9     WHEREAS, Pennsylvania's gardeners help to preserve and foster
    10  the traditional American spirit of independence and individual
    11  initiative; and
    12     WHEREAS, Gardening instills in all Pennsylvanians and
    13  Americans a great appreciation for nature and the beauty of this
    14  State and country, an appreciation which fosters respect and


     1  care for the environment; therefore be it
     2     RESOLVED (the Senate concurring), By THAT the General          <--
     3  Assembly of Pennsylvania, that URGE THE GOVERNOR TO DESIGNATE     <--
     4  the week beginning the first Sunday of June of each year,         <--
     5  commencing with the week of June 5, 1983, is designated as
     6  "Pennsylvania Garden Week" and the Governor is requested to
     7  issue a proclamation urging State and local government agencies,
     8  and citizens and private organizations, to observe such week
     9  with appropriate ceremonies and other activities, including the
    10  wearing of garden flowers as a symbol of appreciation for the
    11  efforts and contributions of the State and Nation's gardeners;
    12  and be it further
    13     RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be transmitted to
    14  the presiding officers of each house of Congress and to each
    15  member of Congress from Pennsylvania.
