HOUSE RESOLUTION

                                  A RESOLUTION

     1  Establishing a Special Sub-committee on Horse Racing.

     2     WHEREAS, Horse racing is a multimillion dollar business in
     3  this Commonwealth; and
     4     WHEREAS, Many states are considering the institution of off-
     5  track betting as a potential source of tremendous revenue; and
     6     WHEREAS, Widespread reports of animal abuse and mistreatment
     7  suggest the need for protection of these animals; therefore be
     8  it
     9     RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives direct the
    10  Chairman of the Agriculture and Rural Affairs Committee to
    11  appoint a Special Sub-committee on Horse Racing from the members
    12  of the committee, four members from the majority party and two
    13  members from the minority party. The sub-committee shall have
    14  the power to investigate all aspects of horse racing including,
    15  but not limited to, off-track betting and animal abuse and it
    16  shall recommend pertinent legislation on matters it inquires
    17  into; and be it further

     1     RESOLVED, That the Special Sub-committee on Horse Racing may
     2  exercise the powers permitted to be exercised by standing sub-
     3  committees by the Rules of the House.
