        AS AMENDED ON THIRD CONSIDERATION, IN SENATE, MARCH 27, 1984

                                     AN ACT

     1  Making appropriations from a restricted revenue account within
     2     the General Fund and from Federal augmentation funds to the
     3     Public Utility Commission.

     4     The General Assembly of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania
     5  hereby enacts as follows:
     6     Section 1.  The following sums, or as much thereof as may be
     7  necessary, are specifically appropriated from the restricted
     8  revenue account within the General Fund and from Federal
     9  augmentation funds to the Public Utility Commission to provide
    10  for the operation of the commission for the fiscal period July
    11  1, 1984 to June 30, 1985 for the purposes and in the amounts
    12  shown:
    13                                            Federal          State
    14         (1)  For the salaries, wages
    15     and all necessary expenses for the
    16     proper operation and administration
    17     of the Public Utility Commission,                              <--


     1     INCLUDING THE SUM OF $1,000,000 TO
     2     BE USED SPECIFICALLY BY THE PUBLIC
     3     UTILITY COMMISSION TO COMBAT THE
     4     CONTAMINATION OF WATER SUPPLIES BY
     5     PARASITIC MICRO-ORGANISMS WHICH
     6     CAUSE GIARDIASIS.
     7             State appropriation........               $22,733,000
     8             (i)  The following Federal
     9         augmentation amounts, or as
    10         much thereof as may be
    11         necessary, are specifically
    12         appropriated to supplement the
    13         sum authorized to be billed to
    14         utilities for the operation of
    15         the commission:
    16                 (A)  "Natural Gas
    17             Pipeline Safety" - To
    18             enforce the regulations of
    19             the Natural Gas Pipeline
    20             Safety Act.
    21             Federal appropriation......      140,000
    22                 (B)  "Railroad Safety"
    23             - For safety inspectors to
    24             survey and patrol over
    25             14,000 miles of trackage to
    26             eliminate derailment and
    27             provide safe rail travel.
    28             Federal appropriation......      149,000
    29     Any Federal funds which the Public
    30  Utility Commission receives pursuant

     1  to these appropriations shall not be
     2  credited to any utility nor used to
     3  lower the annual assessment of any
     4  utility.
     5     Section 2.  This act shall take effect immediately.
