                                     AN ACT

     1  Amending Title 75 (Vehicles) of the Pennsylvania Consolidated
     2     Statutes, authorizing local authorities to erect stop signs
     3     in cities.

     4     The General Assembly of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania
     5  hereby enacts as follows:
     6     Section 1.  Section 6124 of Title 75 of the Pennsylvania
     7  Consolidated Statutes is amended to read:
     8  § 6124.  Erection of traffic-control devices at intersections.
     9     (a)  General rule.--The department on State-designated
    10  highways, including intersections with local highways, and local
    11  authorities on intersections of highways under their
    12  jurisdiction may erect and maintain stop signs, yield signs or
    13  other official traffic-control devices to designate through
    14  highways or to designate intersections at which vehicular
    15  traffic on one or more of the roadways should yield or stop and
    16  yield before entering the intersection.
    17     (b)  Stop signs in cities.--Notwithstanding subsection (a),


     1  local authorities in cities of the first class, second class,
     2  second class A and third class may erect and maintain stop signs
     3  on any highway within their boundaries without the approval of
     4  the department or complying with regulations of the department.
     5     Section 2.  This act shall take effect in 60 days.
