                                     AN ACT

     1  Amending the act of March 10, 1949 (P.L.30, No.14), entitled "An
     2     act relating to the public school system, including certain
     3     provisions applicable as well to private and parochial
     4     schools; amending, revising, consolidating and changing the
     5     laws relating thereto," further providing for the attire for
     6     teachers and students and for a discipline code.

     7     The General Assembly of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania
     8  hereby enacts as follows:
     9     Section 1.  The act of March 10, 1949 (P.L.30, No.14), known
    10  as the Public School Code of 1949, is amended by adding sections
    11  to read:
    12     Section 1317.1.  Discipline Code.--Administrators of school
    13  districts of the first class and school districts of the first
    14  class A, which are conterminous with cities of the second class,
    15  may implement a discipline code as follows:
    16     (1)  Parents or guardians of disruptive children shall be
    17  notified, by telephone or letter, of their child's behavior.
    18     (2)  If the child continues to be disruptive, he shall be
    19  given a demerit.

     1     (3)  When three (3) demerits are given, the principal shall
     2  suspend the child.
     3     (4)  Upon return from suspension if the child is again
     4  disruptive, the principal shall expel the child.
     5     Section 1317.2.  Dress Code; Students.--The board of school
     6  directors in all school districts may establish a dress code for
     7  students when they are present upon school grounds.
     8     Section 1317.3.  Dress Code; Teachers.--The board of school
     9  directors in any school district of the first class A, which is
    10  conterminous with a city of the second class may require
    11  teachers to set an example for students by establishing a dress
    12  code for teachers. Male teachers may be required to wear a shirt
    13  with a tie, a jacket and slacks and female teachers may be
    14  required to wear dresses, suits and dress pants. Special
    15  education teachers may be exempt from these requirements.
    16     Section 2.  This act shall take effect in 60 days.
