A JOINT RESOLUTION
1 Proposing an amendment to the Constitution of the Commonwealth
2 of Pennsylvania, authorizing political activity by judges.
3 The General Assembly of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania
4 hereby resolves as follows:
5 Section 1. The following amendment to the Constitution of
6 Pennsylvania is proposed in accordance with Article XI:
7 That section 17(a) of Article V be amended to read:
8 § 17. Prohibited activities.
9 (a) Justices and judges shall devote full time to their
10 judicial duties, and shall not engage in the practice of law[,
11 hold office in a political party or organization,] or hold an
12 office or position of profit in the government of the United
13 States, the Commonwealth or any municipal corporation or
14 political subdivision thereof, except in the armed service of
15 the United States or the Commonwealth.
