AN ACT
1 Amending the act of August 9, 1955 (P.L.323, No.130), entitled
2 "An act relating to counties of the third, fourth, fifth,
3 sixth, seventh and eighth classes; amending, revising,
4 consolidating and changing the laws relating thereto,"
5 granting civil service status to all deputy sheriffs in
6 counties of the third class.
7 The General Assembly of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania
8 hereby enacts as follows:
9 Section 1. The act of August 9, 1955 (P.L.323, No.130),
10 known as The County Code, is amended by adding a section to
11 read:
12 Section 1206.1. Civil Service Status for Deputy Sheriffs in
13 Third Class Counties.--(a) All deputy sheriff positions in
14 counties of the third class shall be civil service positions.
15 (b) All persons who are serving in the position of deputy
16 sheriff in counties of the third class on the effective date of
17 this act shall automatically be granted civil service status.
18 (c) All counties of the third class shall adopt legislation
19 based as closely as possible on the act of August 5, 1941
1 (P.L.752, No.286), known as the Civil Service Act.
2 Section 2. This act shall take effect 60 days.
