AN ACT
1 Amending the act of May 1, 1933 (P.L.103, No.69), entitled "An
2 act concerning townships of the second class; and amending,
3 revising, consolidating, and changing the law relating
4 thereto," providing for an increase in the maximum
5 compensation of an attorney employed by an auditor.
6 The General Assembly of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania
7 hereby enacts as follows:
8 Section 1. Section 550 of the act of May 1, 1933 (P.L.103,
9 No.69), known as The Second Class Township Code, reenacted and
10 amended July 10, 1947 (P.L.1481, No.567), is amended to read:
11 Section 550. Employment and Compensation of Attorney.--The
12 auditors, in case of a disagreement with any officials or board
13 of township supervisors whose accounts they are required to
14 audit, may employ an attorney. Such attorney shall not be
15 employed until reasonable effort to reach an agreement has been
16 made, and only after notice of their intention so to do has been
17 given to said official or board of township supervisors. The
18 compensation for such attorney shall be fixed by the auditors,
19 and shall not exceed [thirty dollars] two hundred fifty dollars
1 annually, unless an appeal is taken to the court, in which case
2 the court shall fix the additional compensation for the
3 attorney. The compensation for said attorney shall be paid out
4 of the general township fund by a warrant drawn by the auditors
5 upon the treasurer of the township.
6 Section 2. This act shall take effect in 60 days.
