AN ACT
1 Amending Title 75 (Vehicles) of the Pennsylvania Consolidated
2 Statutes, requiring seat belts for school buses; and
3 providing penalties.
4 The General Assembly of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania
5 hereby enacts as follows:
6 Section 1. Section 4552(d) of Title 75 of the Pennsylvania
7 Consolidated Statutes is amended and a subsection is added to
8 read:
9 § 4552. General requirements for school buses.

11 (d) Seating.--Adequate seating space of safe design and
12 construction shall be provided for each passenger and no
13 passenger shall be carried for which adequate seating space is
14 not available and used. All seats shall be equipped with seat
15 belts.

17 (i) Seat belts.--No person shall operate or permit the
1 operation of a school bus at any time when occupied by pupils
2 unless the school bus is equipped with seat belts as provided in
3 subsection (d) and unless the seat belt is properly buckled over
4 each pupil. A violation of this subsection constitutes a summary
5 offense punishable by a fine of not less than $50 nor more than
6 $100.
7 Section 2. This act shall take effect January 1, 1984.
