                                     AN ACT

     1  Amending the act of March 10, 1949 (P.L.30, No.14), entitled "An
     2     act relating to the public school system, including certain
     3     provisions applicable as well to private and parochial
     4     schools; amending, revising, consolidating and changing the
     5     laws relating thereto," further providing for the
     6     advertisement of proposals to dispose of real property.

     7     The General Assembly of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania
     8  hereby enacts as follows:
     9     Section 1.  The act of March 10, 1949 (P.L.30, No.14), known
    10  as the Public School Code of 1949, is amended by adding a
    11  section to read:
    12     Section 710.  Advertisement of Proposal.--Prior to any
    13  decision of the board of school directors to sell, convey,
    14  transfer, dispose of or abandon any real property pursuant to
    15  this subarticle, the board of school directors shall make its
    16  proposal known to the public by advertisement once a week for
    17  three weeks in not less than two newspapers of general local
    18  circulation. If there are less than two newspapers of general


     1  local circulation in the service area of the school entity, the
     2  notice shall be published in one newspaper of general local
     3  circulation and shall be posted in at least five separate public
     4  places. In addition, advertisements or notices may also be
     5  placed in trade journals and other newspapers as an inducement
     6  to potential purchasers or leasees. During all negotiation,
     7  emphasis shall be placed on the reuse of the existing school
     8  building for either public activities or private development,
     9  prior to any decision to raze the building.
    10     Section 2.  This act shall take effect in 60 days.
