In the House of Representatives, February 9, 1982 1 WHEREAS, The Republic of Italy and the United States of 2 America have been allies for many years; and 3 WHEREAS, Generations of Italians have settled in the United 4 States over the last 150 years, further strengthening the bonds 5 between our two countries; and 6 WHEREAS, The people of Italy and America strongly believe in 7 the democratic process and the rights of all their citizens to 8 live free from the fears of terrorism; and 9 WHEREAS, The Red Brigades terrorists seized United States 10 Brigadier General James L. Dozier and held him captive for 42 11 days; and 12 WHEREAS, Through the combined efforts of our two countries, 13 General Dozier was freed unharmed; therefore be it 14 RESOLVED (the Senate concurring), That the General Assembly
1 of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania extend profound 2 congratulations and thankfulness to the Republic of Italy for 3 their dedication, perseverance and most of all for the success 4 of their anti-terrorist organization known as the "Leatherheads" 5 in carrying out the rescue of General Dozier; and be it further 6 RESOLVED, That there be continued cooperation and friendship 7 between the people of Italy and the United States in the 8 struggle to preserve the blessings of democracy; and be it 9 further 10 RESOLVED, That a copy of this resolution be sent to the 11 President of Italy, Alessandro Pertini, and a copy to the Prime 12 Minister of Italy, Giovanni Spadolini.
