AN ACT
1 Amending the act of March 10, 1949 (P.L.30, No.14), entitled "An
2 act relating to the public school system, including certain
3 provisions applicable as well to private and parochial
4 schools; amending, revising, consolidating and changing the
5 laws relating thereto," requiring public hearings prior to
6 closing schools or substantial termination of courses of
7 instruction.
8 The General Assembly of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania
9 hereby enacts as follows:
10 Section 1. The act of March 10, 1949 (P.L.30, No.14), known
11 as the "Public School Code of 1949," is amended by adding
12 sections to read:
13 Section 780. Public Hearing Prior to Closing School.--In the
14 event of a closing of a public school, the board of school
15 directors shall hold a public hearing on the question not less
16 than six months prior to the decision of the board relating to
17 the closing of the school.
18 Section 1546. Public Hearing Prior to Termination of Courses
19 of Instruction.--In the event of the substantial termination of
20 courses of instruction, the board of school directors shall hold
1 a public hearing on the question not less than six months prior
2 to the decision of the board relating to the termination of the
3 courses of instruction.
4 Section 2. This act shall take effect in 60 days.
